SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Joseph LeGrande Northcutt
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
  memories of Joseph LeGrande Northcutt of Longview, who died on
  January 12, 2021, at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, A fifth-generation resident of Longview, LeGrande
  Northcutt was born to Josephine and William Northcutt Jr. on
  March 19, 1937, and he grew up with a brother, W. D. Northcutt
  III; he graduated from Longview High School in 1954 and
  subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in business from Baylor
  University; answering his nation's call to duty, he served in the
  U.S. Air Force; and
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Northcutt
  returned to Longview, where he enjoyed a successful career as an
  independent insurance agent, with the slogan, "LeGrande, your
  insurance man!"; a leader in his community, he was a board member
  of Metropolitan Savings and Loan, Market Place Ministries, and
  the Downtown Development Corporation, and for more than 50 years,
  he belonged to the Longview Rotary Club, winning recognition as a
  Paul Harris Fellow; he was also a lifelong member of First
  Baptist Church, serving the congregation as a deacon, Sunday
  school teacher, bus driver, and scoutmaster; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Northcutt shared a rewarding marriage with
  his wife, Cassandra, that spanned over six decades, and he was
  the proud father of two children, Gordon and Aurelia; later in
  life, he was further blessed with four grandchildren, Conlan,
  William, Adolynn, and Truett; he delighted in the time he spent
  with his friends and loved ones "junin' around" at his farm in
  Panola County or fishing for crappie on Caddo Lake, and he was a
  stalwart supporter of the Baylor Bears football and basketball
  teams; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted family man, a respected professional,
  and a true son of Longview, LeGrande Northcutt lived a rich and
  purposeful life, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and
  generosity that will continue to inspire all those who were
  fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joseph LeGrande
  Northcutt and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Joseph LeGrande Northcutt.
