SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Tom McCool retired as sheriff of Harrison County |
|
|
on December 31, 2020, drawing to a close an outstanding career in |
|
|
public service that has spanned nearly a half century; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Raised in Athens, Texas, Tom McCool was hired as a |
|
|
game warden for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Gregg |
|
|
County in 1972; he soon transferred to Marshall, and he spent |
|
|
almost 29 years as a game warden for Harrison, Gregg, and Marion |
|
|
Counties; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After retiring from TPWD, Mr. McCool was elected |
|
|
as the sheriff of Harrison County, and during his exemplary |
|
|
two-decade tenure in office, he earned the respect and admiration |
|
|
of both his fellow citizens and his fellow public officials for |
|
|
his dedication, integrity, and professionalism; he helped |
|
|
improve the training and update the equipment for the sheriff's |
|
|
office, and he also played a vital role in the planning and |
|
|
construction of the new, $6.9 million, 200-bed county jail annex; |
|
|
moreover, he was an inspiring leader and mentor to many in the |
|
|
field of law enforcement; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sheriff McCool has enjoyed |
|
|
the love and support of his wife, Linda; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his 49 years in public service, |
|
|
Tom McCool has contributed immeasurably to the well-being of his |
|
|
fellow Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
|
|
well spent as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his |
|
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Sheriff Tom McCool on his |
|
|
retirement and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Sheriff McCool as an expression of high regard from |
|
|
the Texas Senate. |
