SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 31

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Aledo High School Bearcat football team, which won the 2020 University Interscholastic League Class 5A Division II state championship; and

WHEREAS, The Aledo High School football team won its third consecutive state championship and its eighth championship title since 2010 by defeating Crosby High School 56-21; the Bearcats dominated the game by scoring 42 unanswered points to overcome an early 14-7 deficit; this title is the Bearcat football program's 10th state championship title, which is a new record in the University Interscholastic League's 100-year history; and

WHEREAS, This year's student athletes have demonstrated exceptional dedication and perseverance in the face of the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and they can take great pride in their outstanding performances; and

WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership of head coach Tim Buchanan and his coaching staff, the Bearcats have developed superior teamwork and discipline; and

WHEREAS, Aledo High School and the citizens of Aledo are proud of the Bearcats for their historic victory and for their hard work, impressive skills, and fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby commend the Aledo High School Bearcat football team on its successful season and congratulate the team on winning the 2020 Class 5A Division II state championship; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
