SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dale Lunsford, president of LeTourneau University |
|
|
in Longview, has been appointed to a new role as chancellor of the |
|
|
institution; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Named president in 2007, Dr. Lunsford has |
|
|
overseen the launch of a number of academic programs, among them |
|
|
nursing, civil engineering, and cybersecurity at the |
|
|
undergraduate level and engineering, psychology, and counseling |
|
|
at the graduate level; in addition, he has brought many |
|
|
improvements to the LeTourneau campus; in 2009, the Paul & Betty |
|
|
Abbott Aviation Center and Corner Café student dining hall |
|
|
opened; the Kielhorn Materials Joining Laboratory has been |
|
|
expanded, and new facilities include South Hall, a 200-bed |
|
|
residence, as well as the Allen Family Student Center and Joyce |
|
|
Family Athletic Village; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Lunsford has served on the boards of the |
|
|
Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas and the National |
|
|
Association of Independent Colleges and Universities; benefiting |
|
|
the wider community, he is a director of Texas Bank and Trust and |
|
|
East Texas Communities Foundation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Previously, Dr. Lunsford served as a vice |
|
|
president of The University of Texas at Tyler, and he is a former |
|
|
academic journal editor and visiting scholar at The University of |
|
|
Texas McCombs School of Business; early in his 35-year career in |
|
|
higher education, he was a business professor, associate dean, |
|
|
and director of undergraduate programs for the Collins College of |
|
|
Business at the University of Tulsa, where he earned his |
|
|
bachelor's and master's degrees; he completed his doctoral degree |
|
|
in business administration at Oklahoma State University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his adept and forward-looking leadership, |
|
|
Dale Lunsford has greatly advanced the mission of LeTourneau |
|
|
University, and as he takes on his new responsibilities, he may |
|
|
reflect with pride on his accomplishments to date; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Dale Lunsford on his |
|
|
appointment as chancellor of LeTourneau University and extend to |
|
|
him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Lunsford as an expression of high regard from |
|
|
the Texas Senate. |
