SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 115
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Monte Dwain Allen
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of the late Dr. Monte Dwain Allen, who died
  on April 4, 2016, at the age of 57; and
         WHEREAS, Monte Allen was born on May 26, 1958, in
  Fredericksburg; he grew up in communities across New Mexico and
  West Texas, and he graduated in 1976 from Wall High School, where
  he was a standout athlete; and
         WHEREAS, He married Amy Lynn Ritchie in 1991, and the
  couple was blessed with three children, Katy Lynn Allen, Travis
  Ritchie Allen, and Austin Mabry Allen; he took great pleasure in
  coaching their athletic teams and in watching them compete in
  sporting events; and
         WHEREAS, He earned a degree in economics from The
  University of Texas at Arlington in 1982, and he worked for a time
  as a computer systems analyst before returning to school to
  pursue a career in medicine; he graduated from the Texas College
  of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991, and he completed a fellowship in
  gastroenterology at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospitals and
  Medical Centers in 1996; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was recruited to Laredo by the Laredo
  Medical Group; in 2004, he was joined in his practice by Dr. Elsa
  Canales, and they created Gastroenterology Consultants of
  Laredo; he was known for his tender bedside manner and his
  genuine interest in each patient; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
  daily life, Dr. Allen was a loyal member of Arkansas Avenue
  Church of Christ; he was a leader in his community, and he had a
  positive impact on the people of South Texas; he was a devoted
  husband and father who gave generously to others, and he was a
  source of strength to all who were privileged to share in his
  life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of
  Dr. Monte Dwain Allen; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Dr. Monte Allen.
