SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 121
|
|
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel James A. Attaway III of the |
|
U.S. Army has been selected for battalion command for the fiscal |
|
year 2022, and this achievement merits special recognition; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Jim and Sally Attaway, James Attaway is |
|
a 1994 graduate of Quitman High School; he enlisted in the army in |
|
1998 and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, |
|
rising to the rank of sergeant; in 2001, he joined the ROTC |
|
program at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he studied |
|
kinesiology; and |
|
WHEREAS, After graduating cum laude in 2004, Mr. Attaway |
|
returned to active duty and served in Iraq in support of |
|
Operation Iraqi Freedom as a CH-47D Chinook flight platoon |
|
leader, and during a later deployment to Afghanistan in support |
|
of Operation Enduring Freedom, he was aviation liaison officer to |
|
14 U.S. Army Special Forces teams and a Navy SEAL platoon; his |
|
other assignments include Kosovo, Korea, Alabama, Florida, and |
|
Kentucky, and he is a graduate of the Ranger School, the Airborne |
|
School, and the Command and General Staff College; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since May 2018, this distinguished soldier has |
|
been chair and professor of the military science department at |
|
SFA, the first graduate of the school to return to take charge of |
|
the ROTC program; under his leadership, the department has |
|
established the First Lieutenant Kile G. West 5K and 10K Memorial |
|
Race, and members of the ROTC Ranger Team took first place in the |
|
Task Force Ranger Challenge for the first time in the school's |
|
history; in May 2020, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Lieutenant Colonel Attaway |
|
has benefited from the love and support of his wife, Shauna, and |
|
his two children, Daisy and James; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Attaway's courage, skill, and |
|
dedication to duty have contributed greatly to the defense of our |
|
nation and earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow |
|
soldiers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his outstanding |
|
record of service as he takes on the challenges and opportunities |
|
of his new promotion; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Lieutenant Colonel James A. |
|
Attaway III on his promotion to battalion command and extend to |
|
him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for Lieutenant Colonel Attaway as an expression of high |
|
regard from the Texas Senate. |
