Oscar De Luna |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Oscar De Luna, who died March 25, 2021, |
|
|
at the age of 64; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Oscar De Luna was an exemplary citizen and a |
|
|
dedicated public servant who was widely respected and admired for |
|
|
his many contributions to the people of San Perlita and Willacy |
|
|
County; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was born on August 10, 1956, in Raymondville, |
|
|
to Jose and Teresa De Luna; he and his beloved wife of 48 years, |
|
|
Perla De Luna, were blessed with three sons, Oscar De Luna Jr., |
|
|
Gabriel De Luna, and Dominic De Luna; he was also blessed with |
|
|
five grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Trey, Daemian, and Izabella, |
|
|
and a great-grandchild, Beau, who were a source of much pride and |
|
|
joy for him; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. De Luna was dedicated to public service, and |
|
|
he served for 26 years as mayor of San Perlita; under his |
|
|
leadership, the city saw such improvements as the establishment |
|
|
of a fire department and fire station and the creation of a |
|
|
community center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2014, he was elected to the Willacy County |
|
|
Commissioners Court to represent Precinct 2, and he was reelected |
|
|
in 2018; he played an important role in procuring numerous grants |
|
|
for projects to improve the county's infrastructure, and he was |
|
|
active in a number of organizations dedicated to supporting |
|
|
county functions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Oscar De Luna was a loving family man and a |
|
|
tireless advocate for his constituents, and he leaves behind |
|
|
memories that will be treasured forever by all who were |
|
|
privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Oscar De Luna; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Oscar De Luna. |
