SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 409
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the DeSoto High School Lady Eagles basketball team, |
|
|
which won the 2021 University Interscholastic League Class 6A |
|
|
state championship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles won the first state championship |
|
|
in program history by defeating previously unbeaten and number |
|
|
one-ranked Houston Cypress Creek High School by a score of 53-37; |
|
|
the Lady Eagles' dominant postseason run included four |
|
|
consecutive victories by an average margin of 39 points; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These young student athletes have demonstrated |
|
|
great talent and perseverance over the course of the year, and |
|
|
the team ended the season with a record of 28-2; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Team members are: Mylasia Smith, Kayla Glover, |
|
|
Ja'Mia Harris, Sa'Myah Smith, Miah Payton, Tionna Herron, Jiya |
|
|
Perry, Amina Muhammad, Michayla Gatewood, Ayanna Thompson, |
|
|
Kaliyah Parker, Kendall Brown, Ariyanna Hines, Nadia Johnson, |
|
|
Nisaa Muhammad, and DeShayla Harris; these young women can take |
|
|
great pride in their outstanding performance; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of |
|
|
head coach Andrea Robinson, along with varsity assistant coach |
|
|
Kadi Creel, junior varsity coach Catherine Williams, and |
|
|
freshman coach Darmarcous Crockett, the Lady Eagles developed |
|
|
exceptional teamwork and discipline; they were ably supported by |
|
|
student manager Mykali Ford, trainer David Young, statistician |
|
|
James Beal, and athletic director Larry Davis; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeSoto High School and the people of DeSoto are |
|
|
proud of the Lady Eagles for their hard work, their impressive |
|
|
skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the DeSoto High School Lady Eagles |
|
|
basketball team on its outstanding season and extend |
|
|
congratulations to its players, coaches, and staff on winning the |
|
|
2021 Class 6A state championship; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
