SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 465
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Bob Phillips on the occasion of the Texas Country |
|
|
Reporter's 50th anniversary celebration in the fall of 2021; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A highly regarded reporter and television host, |
|
|
Bob Phillips began his career in journalism as a young employee |
|
|
of KDFW-TV, the Dallas CBS affiliate; he soon distinguished |
|
|
himself as a news photographer and reporter, and in October of |
|
|
1972, the station allowed him to test out a one-half-hour show, |
|
|
an initiative he was inspired to undertake by the nationally |
|
|
renowned Charles Kuralt; the 4 Country Reporter was a fast |
|
|
success that drew in audiences with stories of ordinary Texans |
|
|
doing extraordinary things; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Bob left KDFW-TV in 1986 and began producing the |
|
|
show through his own production company; the show became the |
|
|
Texas Country Reporter, and today, it is the longest-running |
|
|
independently produced television program in the nation; the |
|
|
popular weekly program is carried by local affiliates in every |
|
|
market in Texas and airs nationwide on cable channel RFD-TV; in |
|
|
2015, Bob's wife, Kelli Phillips, joined him in producing and |
|
|
hosting the program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In his 50 years of reporting, Bob has shared |
|
|
stories of truly unique Texans, from eccentric collectors to |
|
|
thought-provoking artists to everyday heroes, and he has given |
|
|
audiences a glimpse into some of the state's many culinary and |
|
|
cultural gems that are hidden just off the beaten path; he is a |
|
|
beloved citizen, and he can reflect with pride on five decades of |
|
|
success as a truly special journalist and reporter; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize Bob Phillips as a treasured Texan |
|
|
and commend him for 50 years of reporting on the storied |
|
|
backroads of the Lone Star State; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
