SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 492
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. John H. Krouse, who will be stepping down on June
  28, 2021, as dean of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
  School of Medicine and as the university's executive vice
  president for Health Affairs; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Krouse joined the university in 2017 after
  having served with distinction in a variety of positions at
  Temple University in Philadelphia; a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon
  University, he earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical
  School and practiced both surgical and medical treatment as an
  otolaryngologist; and
         WHEREAS, Under Dr. Krouse's outstanding leadership, The
  University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine has
  experienced tremendous growth; during his tenure, the number of
  students in the school's medical class has surpassed 200, and the
  school has increased the number of residency and fellowship
  programs from nine to 17; and
         WHEREAS, He has greatly increased patients' access to
  critical health care services across the Rio Grande Valley by
  dramatically increasing the number of the medical school's
  clinical practice sites; under his leadership, the university
  has played a vital role in the region's response to the COVID-19
  pandemic, and the school was the first health care agency to
  implement a testing program and to offer the COVID-19 vaccine in
  the Rio Grande Valley; and
         WHEREAS, A highly regarded physician and administrator,
  Dr. Krouse is respected and admired by his colleagues and the
  university's students, and his leadership as dean of the School
  of Medicine and executive vice president for Health Affairs at
  The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will be greatly missed;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. John H. Krouse on his invaluable
  service to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and extend
  to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
