SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 493
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
  tribute to the Rivas family of Mission for their legacy of
  service in the United States Armed Forces; and
         WHEREAS, Five of the eight children of Dario Rivas Sr. and
  Catalina Blanco Rivas served the nation with distinction as
  members of the United States Marine Corps between 1953 and 1984;
  and
         WHEREAS, The late Private Rebecca Rivas served with the
  Women's Marine Headquarters during the Korean War era and was
  stationed at Camp Pendleton in California; and
         WHEREAS, The late Sergeant Jose Rivas served in the United
  States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967 and was a member of the 1st
  Marine Air Wing stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Dario Rivas Jr. served from 1964 to 1968
  with the 1st and 3rd Marine Shore Party Battalion in Vietnam; he
  qualified as an expert rifleman for three consecutive years, and
  he was a part of the first division of marine corps troops to
  arrive in Vietnam; and
         WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Ruben Rivas served with the 3rd
  Marine Recon Battalion in 1968 and 1969 in Vietnam's Quang Tri
  Province, and he was wounded in action when his squad was
  ambushed by Vietnamese troops; and
         WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Roberto Rivas served from 1980 to
  1984 with the Marine Field Service Support Group at Camp
  Pendleton and in South Korea; his decorations include the Good
  Conduct Medal, and his three sons have all served in the United
  States military; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Rivas family on
  their selfless military service and their outstanding commitment
  to preserving and defending our nation's democratic ideals; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the family as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
