LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 1, 2021

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB725 by Patterson (Relating to the eligibility of certain children who are or were in foster care for free prekindergarten programs in public schools.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

It is assumed that the costs associated with the bill's provisions relating to  the eligibility of certain children who are or were in foster care for free prekindergarten programs in public schools could be absorbed using existing resources.  While the bill's provisions would potentially increase the number of eligible students for prekindergarten, the number of students is not anticipated to large enough to have a significant fiscal impact to the Foundation School Program.

Local Government Impact

Implementing the bill's provisions would increase data collection requirements for school districts and charter schools.
