No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code as it relates to compensation for persons wrongfully imprisoned. The bill would allow a person entitled to compensation for being wrongfully imprisoned who is eligible for health benefits coverage to include the person's spouse and dependents. The Employees Retirement System (ERS) indicates there are a small number of wrongfully-imprisoned individuals eligible to participate in the Group Benefits Program. 

Based upon information from the Comptroller, the Department of Criminal Justice, and ERS, it is assumed that costs associated with the bill's provisions could be absorbed using existing resources.
