LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 14, 2021

TO:
Honorable Richard Peña Raymond, Chair, House Committee on Defense & Veterans' Affairs

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1092 by Romero, Jr. (Relating to the verification of the veteran status of inmates and prisoners.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code as it relates to the verification of an offender's veteran status. The bill would also require county sheriffs to submit a daily report to the Texas Veterans Commission and allow for video or in-person visitation with a veterans county service officer or a peer support coordinator. It is assumed that the costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

According to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, there may be a cost to counties; however, this analysis assumes that the fiscal impact is not anticipated to be significant.
