No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to provide that an applicant may serve the attorney representing the state by secure e-mail or electronic transmission if filing for habeas relief in a community supervision case involving a felony or misdemeanor. Under current law, the applicant has two options of service, service by certified mail or personal service.
Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated as a result from implementing the provisions of the bill.
