HB1159 by Murr (Relating to the maximum judgment amount awarded by a justice court in certain civil cases regarding the repair of residential rental property.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Property Code to provide that a justice court, in certain cases regarding the repair of residential rental property, may not award a judgment that exceeds $20,000 excluding interest and court costs. Current law caps this amount at $10,000.

Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated due to implementing the provisions of the bill.

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
