LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 30, 2021

TO:
Honorable Stephanie Klick, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1633 by Guillen (Relating to the audiology and speech-language pathology interstate compact; authorizing fees.), As Introduced

It is not currently known how many states will choose to join the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact and fees authorized by the bill are unknown; therefore, the fiscal impact of the bill cannot be determined.

The bill would amend Chapter 401 of the Occupations Code to enact an audiology and speech-language pathology interstate compact to facilitate the interstate practice of audiology and speech-language pathology. To exercise the compact privilege, the bill would require an audiologist or speech-language pathologist to hold an active license in the home state and meet certain requirements, including payment of any applicable fees. The bill would authorize the compact member states to create and establish the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Compact Commission (commission). The commission would be authorized to collect an annual assessment from each member state or impose fees on other parties to cover the cost of the operations and activities of the commission and its staff.

Local Government Impact

The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time.
