Honorable Stephanie Klick, Chair, House Committee on Public Health
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1697 by Raney (Relating to the provision of sex offender treatment by certain physicians and psychologists.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Occupations Code as it relates to the requirements for sex offender treatment provider licensure. The bill would add additional circumstances under which providers, specifically certain licensed psychologists and physicians, are not required to possess this licensure.
The Health and Human Services Commission's (HHSC's) Council on Sex Offender Treatment would review and revise current rules in accordance with the bill. HHSC anticipates that if rules are revised, additional guidance may need to be issued to providers and training on new requirements provided to staff. It is assumed that the costs associated with implementing the bill's provisions could be absorbed using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
