No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Penal Code related to acquittals based on self-defense. The bill would prohibit consideration of a mistake of fact defense when a judge or jury decides whether a defendant was not otherwise engaged in criminal activity.

Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated as a result from implementing the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

The Texas Association of Counties does not anticipate a significant fiscal impact to counties.
