No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to require applicants for construction, operation, or maintenance of a facility to store, process, or dispose of medical waste to notify certain elected officials as defined in the bill of this application not later than 30 days after filing for the application and requires the applicant to submit to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) proof that notice has been provided in accordance with this notification requirement. Based on the analysis of the TCEQ and the Health and Human Services Commission, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed with existing resources.
