LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 17, 2021

TO:
Honorable Tracy O. King, Chair, House Committee on Natural Resources

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2148 by Stephenson (Relating to notice of contamination of a public water supply to certain water providers by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Water Code to require the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to give notice to owners or operators of each public water supply system that would be effected from contaminated water that is a source of public water that the agency has detected or become aware of within timeframes established in the bill. Based on the analysis of the TCEQ, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed with existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
