LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 22, 2021

TO:
Honorable Paul Bettencourt, Chair, Senate Committee on Local Government

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2242 by Patterson (Relating to illness or injury leave of absence for county and municipal firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical services personnel.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to provide for illness or injury leave of absence for county and municipal firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical services personnel.

Local Government Impact

According to the Texas Association of Counties, a significant fiscal impact to counties that have relevant personnel is anticipated. The impact would be associated with extending salary continuation for a line of duty injury or illness and with having other staff cover essential functions of employees on light duty.

The fiscal implications of the bill on municipalities cannot be determined at this time.
