LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 11, 2021

TO:
Honorable James B. Frank, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2298 by Cason (Relating to notifying an alleged perpetrator of child abuse or neglect of the person's rights in connection with an investigation conducted by the Department of Family and Protective Services.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Family Code to require the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to provide additional summary information and certain verbal information to a parent after initiating an investigation and to adopt a form for the purpose of verifying that the parent received the verbal notifications and written summary.

Based on analysis from DFPS, it is assumed that the costs to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
