LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 23, 2021

TO:
Honorable Terry Canales, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2367 by Harris (Relating to the use of certain license plates utilizing integrated circuit technology.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 504.002 of the Transportation Code to require the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) to allow a registered vehicle to be equipped with a license plate that uses integrated circuit technology.

Because the bill does not specify the purposes or functionality of license plates equipped with integrated circuit technology, TxDMV reports that potential costs of implementing the bill cannot be estimated. This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill as filed would not result in a significant fiscal impact to the State.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
