The bill would amend the Estates Code to create a procedure for the appointment of a temporary guardian for a ward for the limited purpose of receiving Social Security benefits on behalf of the ward's estate for 30 days, subject to one extension of an additional 30 days, or until a permanent guardian is appointed, whichever period is shorter. Under the bill's provisions, costs and attorney's fees would be paid in accordance with current statute requiring costs and fees to be paid in the following order: from the ward's estate, by the person who incurred the costs, or the county if the estate and the litigant are indigent.
