LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 13, 2021

TO:
Honorable Stephanie Klick, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2758 by Smith (Relating to training for physicians in identification and assistance of victims of human trafficking.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Occupations Code to require certain physicians seeking licensing renewal to complete at least one hour of continuing medical education regarding the identification and assistance of victims of human trafficking. The bill would require the Texas Medical Board (TMB) to approve the associated courses, of which at least one must be free, and maintain and post a list of the approved courses on its website.

TMB indicates that anticipated costs could be absorbed using existing agency resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
