LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 19, 2021

TO:
Honorable Andrew S. Murr, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2793 by Johnson, Jarvis (Relating to parole determinations and individual treatment plansĀ for inmates.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code as it relates to individual treatment plans for release on parole. The bill would direct the Board of Pardons and Paroles (BPP) to provide a copy of the parole decision statement to the rehabilitation programs division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). The bill would also amend the Government Code as it relates to individual treatment plans and would require BPP to prepare an annual report as outlined in the bill. According to TDCJ and BPP, the costs associated with the bill's provisions could be absorbed using existing resources.

This analysis assumes implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
