The bill would amend the Government Code to provide that the judicial panel on multidistrict litigation consists of five members designated from time to time by the Supreme Court of Texas. The bill would require members of the panel to be active, former, or retired court of appeals justices or active administrative judges.
The bill would provide that the judicial panel cannot transfer an action brought by the consumer protection division of the attorney general's office
Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration and Office of the Attorney General, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the bill could be accomplished utilizing existing resources. In addition, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated with the implementation of the bill.
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
