LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 30, 2021

TO:
Honorable Terry Canales, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3390 by Thompson, Ed (Relating to the purchase of cybersecurity insurance coverage by the Texas Department of Transportation.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to purchase cybersecurity insurance coverage that the department considers necessary to protect against liability, revenue, and property losses that may result from a data breach or cyber attack.

Based on the information provided by TxDOT, it is assumed the costs of a cybersecurity insurance policy that may be purchased by the department under the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
