LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 10, 2021

TO:
Honorable Harold V. Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3485 by Goodwin (Relating to information reported through the Public Education Information Management System and to parents regarding disciplinary measures used by a school district or open-enrollment charter school.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require that each local education agency (LEA) report certain data related to disciplinary measures to the Texas Education Agency. TEA would be required to publish aggregated data based in a report and each LEA would be required to provide the report to parents and on its web site.

This analysis assumes that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

LEAs could see some increased costs associated with increased reporting requirements and with providing parents with copies of the report.
