HB3986 by Guillen (Relating to uncollectible fines, fees, and court costs in criminal actions and proceedings.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to add a fine imposed in a criminal case to the list of costs that a court may designate as uncollectible if the fine has been unpaid for at least 15 years. The bill would also provide that other items of cost may be designated as uncollectible also if unpaid for at least 15 years.

Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated as a result from implementing the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
