LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION
Revision 1

April 7, 2021

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB23 by Huffman (Relating to an election to approve a reduction or reallocation of funding or resources for a municipal or county law enforcement agency.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require a municipality or county to hold an election to approve a reduction or reallocation of funding or resources for a municipal or county law enforcement agency.

Local Government Impact

Cameron County anticipates a cost of $653,000 per election if a budget were passed that triggered an election required by the bill

Travis County anticipates a negative impact which cannot be calculated, especially because it could have a multi-year impact on the tax rate.

The Justices of the Peace and Constables Association anticipates no significant fiscal impact.
