LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 29, 2021

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB348 by Kolkhorst (relating to parental access to public school virtual instruction and instructional materials for virtual and remote learning.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

It is assumed that the costs associated with the bill's provisions relating to parental access to public school virtual instruction and instructional materials for virtual and remote learning could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

A district or charter school that prohibits a parent from observing virtual instruction or reviewing teaching materials and aids used as part of virtual or remote learning of that parent's child would be required by this legislation to begin allowing such activities.  There could be costs to the local district to make instructional materials and aids available for the parent's review.
