Honorable Brandon Creighton, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB884 by Zaffirini (Relating to the management and operation of a multi-institution health education center in the City of Laredo.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
It is assumed that the costs associated with the bill's provisions relating to the management and operation of a multi-institution health center in the City of Laredo by The University of Texas (UT) System Administration could be absorbed using existing resources.
The provisions of the proposed legislation would change the name of The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCA) Campus Extension located in Laredo to the UT Multi-Institution Center. Additionally, the requirement that UTHSCA be assigned responsibility would be removed and operating costs of the center would no longer be required to include operating funds of UTHSCA. The UT Board of Regents are authorized to assign management responsibility and based on analysis of agency responses it is assumed that UT System Administration would be assigned responsibility of general campus operations.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
