LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 2, 2021

TO:
Honorable Lois W. Kolkhorst, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB966 by Kolkhorst (Relating to legislative oversight during a public health disaster or public health emergency, including the establishment of a legislative public health oversight board.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would establish a legislative public health oversight board and require the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) commissioner to receive board approval to renew a public health disaster or a public health emergency. DSHS indicates it could absorb the costs associated with implementing the bill within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
