FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB1195 by Paxton (Relating to the right of certain hospital patients to designate an essential caregiver for in-person visitation.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code by giving hospital patients the right to designate at least one essential caregiver with whom the hospital may not prohibit in-person visitation. The bill would require the executive commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to develop guidelines by rule to assist hospitals in establishing essential caregiver visitation policies and procedures.
HHSC indicates any cost to implement provisions of the bill would be minimal and can be absorbed within available resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
