IN RE:	SB1831 by Taylor (Relating to the increase of penalties for those who engage in the crime of solicitation or trafficking on school premises.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Penal Code as it relates to increasing penalties for certain solicitation, prostitution, or trafficking offenses. Under the provisions of the bill, certain offenses would be enhanced to the next higher offense level if it involved a school and schools would be required to post a no trafficking notice as outlined in the bill.

The Office of Court Administration and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice indicate the modifications outlined in the bill's provisions would not result in a significant fiscal impact.  The Health and Human Services Commission indicates the fiscal impact cannot be determined at this time because it is unknown how many signs would need to be provided to each school. This analysis assumes implementing the provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions would not result in a significant impact on the demand for state correctional resources. 

Local Government Impact

According to the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to local government is anticipated.
