HB3289 by González, Mary (Relating to the penalties for a violation of a quarantine or rule to protect pecans or pecan trees from diseases or pests; increasing civil penalties.), As Engrossed

The provisions of the bill addressed by this analysis would amend the Agriculture Code as it relates to the penalties for a violation of a quarantine or rule to protect pecans or pecan trees from diseases or pests. Under the provisions of the bill, in certain circumstances, violating quarantine established against a pest or disease affecting pecans or pecan trees would be punishable as a Class C misdemeanor.

A Class C misdemeanor is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500 (up to 180 days of deferred disposition and no confinement).  This analysis assumes implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on the demand for state correctional resources.
