The provisions of the bill addressed by this analysis would amend the Education Code as it relates to the reporting of hazing incidents. Under existing statute, the knowing failure to report a hazing incident is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor. Under the provisions of the bill, the list of individuals to whom a report of hazing could be given would be modified.
A Class B misdemeanor is punishable by confinement in county jail for a term not to exceed 180 days and in addition to confinement, an optional fine not to exceed $2,000.
