Pursuant to a notice posted on April 5, 2022, the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Collier, at 10:14 a.m.

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Collier; Bell, Keith; Cason; and Crockett.

A quorum was present for the sole purpose of taking testimony, pursuant to Rule 4, Section 16A.

(Representatives Cook, Johnson, Ann, and Vasut participating virtually, pursuant to Rule 4, Section 16A.)

The Chair made opening remarks.

The Committee took invited testimony only on the following interim committee charge:

Study the accessibility to counsel in cases involving an indigent defendant and make recommendations to improve access to counsel in these cases. Evaluate methods to improve the effectiveness of court-appointed counsel, caseload processing, caseload distribution, and the state's compliance with applicable appointment of counsel requirements.

At 3:35 p.m., on the motion of the Chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the Chair.
