Pursuant to a notice posted on February 16, 2021, revised on February 24, 2021, and permission granted on February 24, 2021, to meet while the House was in session, the House Committee on Energy Resources met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Goldman, at 9:00 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Goldman; Herrero; Anchia; Craddick; Darby; Ellzey; Geren; King, Tracy O.; Leman; Longoria; and Reynolds.

 

A quorum was present.

 

The committee held a joint public hearing with the Committee on State Affairs to consider the factors that led to the statewide electrical blackouts during the recent unprecedented weather event; the response by industry, suppliers, and grid operators; and changes necessary to avoid future power interruptions.

 

The chairs of both committees made opening statements.
