Pursuant to a notice posted on September 26, 2022, revised on September 26, 2022, the House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Neave, at 10:07 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Neave; Cook; Frank; and Leach.

 

(Representatives Swanson and Ramos participating virtually, pursuant to Rule 4, Section 16A.)

 

A quorum was present for the sole purpose of taking testimony, pursuant to Rule 4, Section 16A.


 

 

The Committee met jointly with the Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence and heard invited testimony on the following charge:

 

Examine current caseloads and capacity issues for courts handling matters related to the Texas-Mexico border. Evaluate the preparedness of the court system to handle increases in caseloads that may result from the border crisis response and make recommendations to ensure the continued fair and efficient administration of justice in the state in addressing any increased caseloads.
