Pursuant to a notice posted on May 6, 2021, the House Committee on Public Education met in a formal meeting and was called to order by the chair, Representative Dutton, at 9:05 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Dutton; Lozano; Allen; Allison; Bell, Keith; Bernal; Buckley; González, Mary; Huberty; King, Ken; Meza; Talarico; and VanDeaver.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

SB 29

 

The chair laid out SB 29, that failed to be reported on May 4, 2021.

 

The chair moved to reconsider the vote by which the substitute was adopted on May 4, 2021.

 

The motion to reconsider prevailed without objection.

 

The committee substitute was withdrawn without objection.

 

Representative King, Ken offered a complete committee substitute.

 

The committee substitute was adopted without objection.

 

The chair moved that SB 29, as substituted, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion prevailed by the following record vote:

 

Ayes:                           Representatives Dutton; Lozano; Allison; Bell, Keith; Buckley; Huberty; King, Ken; VanDeaver (8).

 

Nays:                           Representatives Allen; Bernal; González, Mary; Meza; Talarico (5).

The chair laid out SB 1365.

 

The chair moved that SB 1365, without amendments, be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion failed by the following record vote:

Nays:                           Representatives Lozano; Allen; Allison; Bernal; González, Mary; Meza; Talarico (7).
