Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:01 AM. A quorum not being present, the following business was transacted: The roll was called at 9:24 AM and a quorum was established. The following members arrived after the roll was called: Senator Bettencourt, Senator West.

 

The chair laid out HB 725 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Zaffirini, to explain the bill.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Taylor moved that HB 725 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out HB 699 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Zaffirini, to explain the bill.

Senator Hughes sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Hughes to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

Public testimony began on HB 487.

 

At 9:59 AM Senator Taylor moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 3:38 PM Senator Taylor reconvened the meeting.

 

Public testimony resumed on HB 487.

At 3:51 PM Senator Lucio, Jr. assumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out HB 1147 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Taylor, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Perry sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Taylor to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the house bill as engrossed.

Senator Lucio, Jr. moved that HB 1147 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 3:55 PM Senator Taylor resumed the chair.

 

There being no further business, at 3:55 PM Senator Taylor moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
