Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance was held on Monday, May 23, 2022, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:02 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

The Chair made opening remarks.

The Committee heard invited and public testimony on the following interim charges:

Property Tax Relief - Examine and recommend ways to reduce Texans' property tax burden. Review and report on proposals to use or dedicate state revenues in excess of the state spending limit to eliminate the school district maintenance and operations property tax.

Tax Exemptions - Examine Texans' current tax exemptions and report on whether adjustments are merited because of inflation or any other factors.

Witnesses testifying and registering are shown on the attached list.

The Chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

There being no further business, at 2:40 PM Senator Huffman moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
