Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Saturday, May 22, 2021, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.016, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 11:47 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 2706.  Senator Creighton moved that HB 2706 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Creighton moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

At 11:49 AM Senator Huffman moved that the Committee stand recessed until after adjournment of the Senate. Without objection, it was so ordered.

 

 

At 7:40 PM Senator Huffman reconvened the meeting. 

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 492. Senator Huffman sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Juan Hinojosa, in absence of the senate sponsor Senator West, to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the house bill as engrossed.  Senator Hinojosa moved the adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Hinojosa moved that HB 492 do not pass but that CSHB 492 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.  Senator Hinojosa moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Creighton submitted a motion in writing to be shown voting aye for CSHB 492.

 

There being no further business, at 7:42 PM Senator Huffman moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
