Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, in the Betty King Committee Room at Austin, Texas.  Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, SB 9 was added to the posting notice.

The chair called the meeting to order at 10:02 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The chair laid out SB 9 and recognized the author, Senator West, to explain the bill.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.  The chair moved that public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Hinojosa moved that SB 9 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. 

 

Senator Hinojosa assumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out SB 6 and recognized the author, Senator Huffman, to explain the bill.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.  The chair moved that public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Huffman moved that SB 6 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.  Senator Creighton submitted a motion in writing to be shown voting aye for SB 6.

 

The chair laid out SJR 3 and recognized the author, Senator Huffman, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.  The chair moved that public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Huffman moved that SJR 3 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.  Senator Creighton submitted a motion in writing to be shown voting aye for SJR 3.

 

Senator Huffman resumed the chair.

 

There being no further business, at 1:27 PM Senator Huffman moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
