SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35
         WHEREAS, Melba Mebane retired from Dillard's in Tyler in
  June 2023, drawing to a close a remarkable career with the
  department store that spanned 74 years; and
         WHEREAS, In 1949, Ms. Mebane took a job at the Mayer &
  Schmidt department store in Tyler, which was acquired by
  Dillard's in 1956; after about six months of operating the
  store's elevator, she was promoted to a position in men's
  clothing, and she subsequently joined cosmetics, where she
  remained for the rest of her career; a single mother, she
  skillfully balanced her job responsibilities with family life
  while raising her son, Terry, and rarely missed a day of work; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Mebane earned a reputation for her skill as a
  salesperson, and through the years, manufacturers sent her
  bottles of perfume in exchange for her promotion of their
  products; she enjoyed lasting relationships with corporate
  leadership and with Bill and Alexa Dillard, the store's founders,
  and she was a beloved mother figure who coached and trained
  countless fellow employees while dispensing sage advice; she was
  greatly admired for her exceptional customer service, and upon
  her retirement, her coworkers presented her with a "Beyond
  Excellence" award, and a plaque that features her photo now hangs
  inside the store; and
         WHEREAS, Melba Mebane is a source of joy and inspiration to
  all who have the great privilege of knowing her and of sharing in
  the richness of her life, and it is a pleasure to join in
  recognizing her for her many years of dedicated service; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Melba
  Mebane on her well-deserved retirement from Dillard's department
  store in Tyler and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Mebane as an expression of high regard from
  the Texas Senate.
