R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by |
|
the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Matthew J. Mann of |
|
Pleasanton, who passed away on November 20, 2021, at the age of 49; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Kayla McKinney Mann and Anthony Mann, |
|
Matt Mann was born in Lafayette, Indiana, and his family included |
|
two brothers, Jason and Bill; as a result of his father's various |
|
military postings, he lived in Germany, Hawaii, California, and |
|
Colorado during his youth, and he graduated from Widefield High |
|
School in Colorado Springs; he met his future wife, Sara, while |
|
attending Adams State University; the couple married in 1994, and |
|
they became the parents of two daughters, Kaytlyn and Emily; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Mann completed their student teaching |
|
in the San Luis Valley in Colorado, and he began his career with the |
|
Sierra Grande School District; they then moved to Pleasanton, and |
|
after a stint working with his in-laws in the produce industry, |
|
Mr. Mann taught at Samuel Clemens High School and later at East |
|
Central High School; in 2001, he became assistant principal at |
|
Scobee Middle School, a position he also held at Jourdanton Junior |
|
High School; over the years, he earned a master's degree and |
|
doctorate from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and published four |
|
articles on educational topics; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Mann became principal of Pleasanton High School |
|
in 2012 and was named superintendent of the district three years |
|
later; under his leadership, all four Pleasanton Independent School |
|
District campuses earned high commendations; deeply committed to |
|
literary initiatives, he read each week to a class at the elementary |
|
school and purchased every student on the campus a book that he |
|
would inscribe with a note; he was admired for his unique ability to |
|
connect with students and make them feel valued; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional achievements, |
|
Dr. Mann was a youth soccer coach for 10 years and an active member |
|
of the local Rotary club and MacArthur Park Church of Christ; he |
|
previously served as a deacon at Pleasanton Church of Christ, and in |
|
2017, he was named Pleasanton Man of the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, An inspiring educator and administrator, Matt Mann |
|
made a positive difference in the lives of countless students, and |
|
his contributions will be remembered and admired for years to come; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 2nd |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Matthew J. |
|
Mann and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Matt Mann. |
