R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Cities of San Elizario and Socorro have
  established a sister city relationship with the town of
  Macharaviaya, Spain, and a delegation from San Elizario and Socorro
  is traveling to Macharaviaya to celebrate and affirm the cities'
  historical and cultural ties in October 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Located in the province of Málaga, Macharaviaya was
  officially founded in 1572; with a current population of
  approximately 400 residents, Macharaviaya is a charming village
  with cobblestone streets and whitewashed, stone-wall houses; its
  focal point is the Iglesia de San Jacinto, which was built on the
  site of the original parish church; and
         WHEREAS, Every year, Macharaviaya hosts a Fourth of July
  celebration to recognize its hometown hero, Bernardo de Gálvez, and
  his contributions to U.S. history; an honorary citizen of the
  United States, Mr. Gálvez supported the American Revolutionary War
  effort by providing supplies and intelligence to American forces
  and defeating the British in five military campaigns on U.S. soil;
  Mr. Gálvez was also instrumental in relocating a decommissioned
  Spanish presidio to the Hacienda de los Tiburcios in San Elizario;
  and
         WHEREAS, San Elizario and Socorro are united in their
  commitment to promoting, protecting, and preserving Hispanic
  culture and history, and the delegates from San Elizario are
  participating in a speaking tour that is focused on the historical
  importance of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro and the Camino Real
  de Tierra Afuera; while visiting Macharaviaya, representatives
  from San Elizario and Socorro will deliver sister city agreements,
  and on October 13, they will direct a live-streamed signing
  ceremony involving the mayors of each city; and
         WHEREAS, Boasting a rich and fascinating history,
  Macharaviaya, Spain, is distinguished further by its noteworthy
  role in the campaign for American independence, and its new sister
  cities agreement with San Elizario and Socorro offers a welcome
  opportunity for the citizens of each of these cities to reflect upon
  their shared history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize the sister city
  relationship between the cities of San Elizario and Socorro, Texas,
  and Macharaviaya, Spain, and extend to all those traveling to
  Macharaviaya sincere best wishes for a productive and enjoyable
  visit; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the delegates as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
